Change to ED Visa

For students already in Thailand

Change to an ED Visa: your two visits to Immigration

If you are in Thailand on a tourist visa or visa-exempt entry, you can change to a Non-Immigrant ED Visa without leaving the country. Our team prepares all your school documents. You then visit Immigration twice: once to apply, and once to collect your new visa stamp.

Please note: visa changes are approved only by the Immigration Bureau. Fees, counters and office hours can change, so please follow the officers' instructions on the day.

Before you start

  • Time left on your stay: on the day you submit your documents at Immigration (your first visit), you need at least 15 days left on your current permission to stay. This is counted from your Immigration visit, not from the day you register at the school. When you apply for your program and tell us you need a visa to stay longer, our team gives you a plan with your dates, so everything is ready in time.
  • School documents: we prepare the full document set after your Ministry of Education approval, and tell you when it is ready to collect.
  • TM30: make sure your landlord, condo office or hotel has filed your current address.
Do not travel outside Thailand from your first visit until you have your new ED Visa stamp. Leaving the country cancels your application.

Questions students ask

How long between the two visits?
Immigration sets the return date and writes it on your blue receipt. It is often around two weeks, but it can vary.
Can I travel while I wait for my stamp?
No. Please stay in Thailand until you have your ED Visa stamp. Leaving the country cancels your application.
My stay ends before my return date. Is that OK?
Keep your blue receipt with your passport. It shows that your application is in progress. If you are worried about your dates, contact our admin team before your appointment.
Can I do it online?
No. Changing to an ED Visa is done in person at Chaeng Watthana Immigration, following the steps above.
