Free Thai Level Test
Know your Thai level before you choose a course
Take our free Thai Level Test, modelled on Chulalongkorn University's CU-TFL test, and get your result by email straight away. Then our teachers suggest the course that fits your level and your goals.
Why take the test first?
Many learners can speak more Thai than they can read — or the other way round. The test shows exactly where you are, so your first class fits you.
Start at the right level
No repeating what you already know, and no class that is too hard.
See your strengths
Your result shows your listening and reading separately, band by band.
Get a plan from our teachers
We look at your result, your writing and a short speaking chat, then suggest the class type, level and hours.
Aim for CU-TFL
Planning to take CU-TFL for study or work? You'll see where you stand on the same scale.
What is in the test?
The questions start very easy and get harder, from beginner to advanced. Nobody is expected to answer everything.
| Part | What you do | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | Listening · การฟัง. Short conversations, announcements and talks, from everyday phrases to news-style Thai. Two plays each. | 24 |
| Part 2 | Reading · การอ่าน. Signs, menus, messages, notices, articles and opinion pieces. | 24 |
| Part 3 | Writing · การเขียน. A short message and a short opinion in Thai. You can skip this if you can't write Thai yet. | 2 tasks |
Beginner questions are in English, and the Thai comes with romanization, so you can take the test even if you can't read Thai script yet.
How it works
- Enter your details. Your full name, age, LINE ID and email, so we can send you your result and contact you about the right class.
- Take the test. About 60 minutes; the page allows 75 minutes. Your answers are saved in your browser if the page reloads.
- Get your result by email. Your band, your listening and reading scores, and where you would start at BLS.
- Talk with a teacher. A short speaking chat confirms your level, then we suggest the right course for you.
What do the levels mean?
We use the band names of CU-TFL, the Thai proficiency test of Chulalongkorn University's Sirindhorn Thai Language Institute, with extra steps at the beginner levels where most learners are.
Tips for an accurate result
- Turn your sound on (headphones help). The recordings play in any browser, on a computer or a phone.
- Find a quiet place and about one hour.
- Don't use a dictionary, translator or help from others. We want to see your real level.
- If you don't know an answer, press I don't know instead of guessing.
Questions
Is the test really free?
Yes. There is no cost and no obligation to join a course.
Is this the official CU-TFL?
No. It follows the CU-TFL format and band names, but it is a Bubble Language School placement test. If you need an official result, we can help you prepare for CU-TFL.
I can't read Thai script. Can I take it?
Yes. The beginner questions are in English and the Thai has romanization. Just answer what you can and press "I don't know" for the rest.
Can I take it on my phone?
Yes. Everything, including the listening recordings, works on a phone.
What do you do with my details?
We use your name and contact details only to send you your result and to talk with you about Thai courses. We never share them with anyone else.
I'm already a Bubble student. Should I take this test?
Please ask your teacher. Current students take the placement test through a link from their teacher.
Ready to find your level?
It takes about 60 minutes. Your result arrives in your inbox as soon as you finish.
